With the tiny profit margins available on fuel the importance of confectionary to the modern forecourt is ever growing. It literally is the case that if a customer purely pays for the fuel that they have had and does not choose to add to his or her purchase in some cases the retailer can actually make a loss on the transaction. Credit card charges eat away at the tiny margins leaving profits looking scant.

Mints and Gums placed close to the till are a powerful impulse attraction and offer a healthy profit margin to the retailer. You would be hard pressed now to find a single forecourt that did not display a wide range of confectionary.
